چکیده

Combustion hazards associated with liquid fuels are often categorized in terms of the fuel’s flashpoint. However, in hazard scenarios where high-flashpoint fuel is released under pressure, jet breakup and aerosol formation will result. In these cases, this simplistic method of combustion hazard classification may be not sufficient and then alternative approaches are required. As for gases and dusts a classification of aerosols hazard may be obtained by evaluating the thermo-kinetic parameters such as the maximum overpressure attained during an explosion (Pmax), the deflagration index (here defined as Kae) and the laminar burning velocity (Sl). To this aim we developed a model for the calculation of the thermo-kinetic parameters by assuming that the main mechanism controlling aerosol explosion is the combustion of vapor/air mixture. We described the vapor combustion by using a detailed reaction mechanism. The comparison of model results with experimental data reported in literature for jet fuels and kerosene showed a quite good agreement.

Detonation cell Size Data for Dimethyl-ether Air Mixtures

Peter Diakow Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada Synopsis Dimethyl-ether (C2H6O) a common hydrocarbon is increasingly being used as a transportation fuel and as an aerosol propellant, very limited explosion safety data is available for this fuel. Experiments were performed to determine the detonation characteristics of dimethyl-ether air mixt...

Sensitivity of multiangle imaging to natural mixtures of aerosols over ocean

Multiangle remote sensing data can discriminate among aerosol air mass types, as represented by climatologically probable, external mixtures of component particles. Retrievals are performed over a comparison space of four-component mixtures, selected from six commonly observed components having assumed, fixed microphysical properties but with mixing ratios free to vary from 0% to 100%. We refer...

Technical Effects of Air Cooled Blast Furnace Slag on Asphalt Mixtures

Air cooled blast furnace slag is a by product made of gradually air cooled molten blast furnace slag and is often stored in stockpiles near the iron mills and usually occupy a wide area around the iron mills. From this perspective the further use of these materials can have its own merits. Air cooled blast furnace slag can be used in asphalt mixtures because of their proper frictional propertie...

Analysis of fire and explosion hazards of some hydrocarbon-air mixtures.

Hazards caused by leakage of hydrocarbons have long been a problem. In this paper, the critical initiation energy and explosion limits of some hydrocarbon-air mixtures have been measured in confined (rectangle shock tube) and unconfined (plastic bag) condition tests. Two dimensionless parameters are suggested to compare the fire and explosion hazards of different hydrocarbons. Additionally, a s...

Initial Pressure and Mixture Composition Influence on LPG-air Confined Explosions

Values of some characteristic parameters of confined explosions for LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas)-air quiescent mixtures are examined in correlation with the initial pressure of fuel-air mixture and fuel/air ratio. The explosion pressures, the explosion times and the maximum rates of pressure rise were obtained from experiments made at ambient initial temperature in two closed vessels with cent...
